February 6th, 2003 this is game #1 of kobes amazing streak in 2003 of 9 straight games with 40+ points With 40pts in three quarters and a 34pt lead, Kobe sit on the bench. But NY made an impressive come back and Kobe had to return to action late in the game. He drilled another jumper over Sprewell and made four free throws to give L.A the victory his final stat line 46pts on 17/26 shooting incl 4/4 from 3pt range, 6rbds & 3asts Quote: “He was in a zone! 2/14/03 Lakers vs Spurs (Kobe 44 pts – 40+ pts scoring streak game #4)

The 4th game of the famous 40+ point streak in the 2002-03 season.

Kobe was on fire, scoring 7 straight 35+ point games and scoring 3 straight 40+ point games. But his next game would be a real challenge for his team and his streak. The Spurs won 7 straight games, all which were road games. Also they had arguably the best defensive player in the league, Bruce Bowen.

All of that didn’t matter to Kobe. Riding the hot streak, he came out the first quarter with a vengaence. He made 5 of his first 8 helping LA to a 22-21 lead. Then, he exploded in the 2nd quarter. He started the quarter with a fadeaway, then went on to make 5 straight jumpshots against the championship defense of the San Antonio Spurs. He went on to score 24 first half points, showing his greatness and abilities at the age of 24. Then the defense started to tighten up on him and the Spurs sent doubles on Kobe every time he got the ball. Lethargic play by the LA Lakers led to the game slipping away and the Spurs held a commanding 11 point lead with a minute to go. Despite the game being a longshot away from a victory, Bryant earned his 42nd point with a three over the Spurs with 54 seconds to go, then hit another jumpshot to bring his total to 44. However, LA had a very disappointing loss against the Spurs led by Tim Duncan who put up 28 points and 20 rebounds.

Kobe Bryant’s statline for the game was 44 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks on 19-41 shooting.

2/16/03 Lakers vs Knicks (Kobe 40 Pts – 40+ pts scoring streak game #5)

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers were in the absense of Shaquille O’neal who missed a game because of a sore left knee. Even despite his absense, the Lakers were expected to win. Kobe Bryant had scored 4 straight 40+ point games and 8 straight 35+ point games.

Early in the game, both stars Kobe Bryant and Allan Houston from both teams were silent showing no signs of a shootout between the 2. In the 2nd quarter Houston became much more aggressive scoring from everywhere on the floor. He scored in the post, from downtown, and from drives. He caught fire as it became clear that the Lakers would not win without playing defense on him. He scored 23 by the half while Kobe was still rather quiet. In the 2nd half, Bryant had a different mindset from the 1st. He started looking for his offense more while creating for others. Unfortunately, Houston was still on fire from the 1st half hitting 7 out of 9 shots in the 3rd quarter. He scored 20 points in that quarter alone, very Kobe-esque. That hot shooting became contagious in the 4th as the Knicks appeared to have the game in hand holding a 102-88 lead with 4 minutes left while holding all of the momentum.

But Devean George went on to make 5 quick points cutting the lead to 102-93. Then Kobe, playing on plantar fascitis and leg problems, made 2 straight difficult threes in the corner while being undercut on his jumpshot and while drawing lots of contact. The Lakers never got closer to 104-99 as Allan Houston went on to score 53 points in the entire game leading the Knicks to a 117-110 win.

Kobe Bryant’s final statline was 40 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals on 14-31 shooting and 3-5 from downtown. His counterpart Allan Houston finished the game with 53 points on a blistering 18-29.

A l’origine, je souhaitais faire un dossier avec d’un côté les équipes qui ont été en playoffs et le reste de l’autre. Finalement pour rendre plus clair, on va le faire dans tout ce qu’il y a de plus banal, division par division et uniquement sur la saison régulière. Les playoffs seront à la fin, série par série. Nous allons commencer par la conférence Est et la division central. Chaque équipe aura sa présentation les transferts, les objectifs pour la saison etc… Devant le boulot qui s’annonce assez conséquent, d’autres personnes pourront être sollicités pour vous apporter leurs propres points de vue, notamment Mr Maka, grand fan de cette époque. Vous vous imaginez bien qu’il est impossible de réaliser cela en 1 mois. Non, ce dossier va être completé durant toute l’année 2008 avec des vidéos/matchs en prime. Vous avez bien saisi? Horry vers la sortie?

“Big Shot Bob” pense de plus en plus à une sortie du circuit professionnel. Une belle carrière qui prendrait fin sur une note moins glorieuse que son palmarès en équipe. Horry restera longtemps dans les livres d’histoire comme l’un des joueurs les plus cluth de la ligue.

Robert Horry est né le 25 août 1970. Il mesure 2m08 pour 110 kg.

Il est issu de l’université d’Alabama, il joue au poste d’ailier fort (comme Tim Duncan, Jermaine O’Neal, ou encore Kevin Garnett), dans le club des San Antonio Spurs. Horry a joué successivement pour les Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns (où son passage fut très court), Los Angeles Lakers et San Antonio Spurs.

Robert Horry est surtout connu pour ses paniers marqués à des moments-clés de matches importants, lui valant le surnom de “Big Shot Rob” ou de “Big Shot Bob”. En saison régulière ses statistiques sont plutôt quelconques, mais le mois d’avril et les Playoffs arrivant il se réveille et devient un joueur redoutable derrière la ligne à trois points.

Il est le seul joueur actif, à avoir remporté sept titres de champion NBA, deux fois avec les Houston Rockets, trois fois avec les Los Angeles Lakers, et deux fois avec les San Antonio Spurs. Il est également le seul actif (deux dans l’histoire NBA) à avoir remporté ce titre avec trois franchises différentes.

Il détient le record de panier à trois points tentés (135) et réussis (53) en finale NBA, c’est le joueur actif ayant disputé le plus de matches de Playoffs, ayant inscrit le plus de points et ayant fait le plus d’interceptions en Playoffs. Depuis mai 2008, il est le joueur ayant disputé le plus grand nombre de matchs de Playoffs de l’histoire de la NBA (238 matches. Chiffre arrêté au 14 mai 2008 mais série en cours).
